Character Blog

It's just me, Quentin Jacobsen.  The main character in Paper Towns. This page is where my friends and I talk about who we really are and what our motivations are in the book.  We are all unique individuals with various traits and motivations throughout the story.   We will do our best to describe them here.

Please note: If there are any misspellings or random capitalizations, it is because these comments are written by characters from the book, and should reflect the individuality of that character.

  1. Yo whatup dawg its yah boy Radar. I'm 18 years old. I'm dating the one, the only, Angela. I'm really smart and I love to play Resurrection. I'm pretty good at it, unlike Quentin, who sucks. I'm that kid that is always on Omnictionary … all the time… trying to correct all of the (horrifying) mistakes, deletions, miss corrections, and everything else that can possibly go wrong with a website. I AM NOT A PERFECTIONIST!!!!!! Please! I am just a very smart boy who actually has some pretty cool friends. These friends just took me on a 23 hour car ride to Algoe, New York to go after Margo another one of our friends who ran away from home right before graduation. This is just shows how supportive we are of each other.

  2. Hey Radar! That is my game! No hating on my playing techniques or scores, although they might be pathetic, I am very proud of myself! Anyway back to the homework. I guess that you could call me a persistent person. I did follow a friend all the way to New York because I wanted to tell her something, but she had to leave the next day, and because I have such a great respect for her, I couldn’t follow her where she was going… she asked me not to. I’m glad I found her though. I guess that I was motivated to find her because I had been friends with her for a long time. She is the kind of friend that you don’t want to lose and is impossible to forget. Who knows when I’ll meet another person like her? It took me until high school to tell her what a good friend she was and how much she meant to me. I had known her so long, but could never find the right time to tell her how I really felt. Thanks people for helping me plan that trip. (Quentin protagonist)

    1. Actually, that was totally me who planned out that trip, so don’t start to take credit for something that you didn’t do Q. I was the one who planned out all of the stops and precisely how long it would take us at each stop and to get there. I had that trip planned to the millisecond. (Radar supporting character)

  3. Dude, you are such a perfectionist. Hey that is a really good character trait for you. Don't you agree? (Q)

    1. I’M NOT A PERFECTIONIST!!!!!!!!!!!! I am just a person who really likes to get things right all the time. I mean, what normal person wouldn’t plan out every second of a 23 hour road trip? Oh yeah, I forgot. Apparently I am a very funny guy too, although I try to be a very serious person. My friends always seem to find humor in what I say. Maybe I should be a comedian. (Note to self: pursue this further) (Radar - supporting character)

  4. AWWWWWWW! That is so cute!!! To me now, I can be described as…… hhhmmmmm, how about caring? Isn’t that right Ben? Well, on that trip I was the one who tried to keep everyone healthy by making sure we had a “well - balanced” meal/snack. THAT IS NO EASY TASK WHEN YOU HAVE TO BUY FOOD FROM GAS STATIONS!!!! I try to be nice to people when I can, whether I know them or not. I’m especially attentive to the people that I care for the most, AKA my friends and family (especially Ben). 5. I can be described as a somewhat comical but helpful person. It’s pretty freaking obvious. There is never a time I’m not cracking a joke (Unless Lacey and I are doing something. I try to be romantic around her, not really stupid.) I’m a good friend… I guess… except for when I’m drunk ...I’m a horrible (and sometime hilarious) person when I’m drunk. I did superglue some beer cans to my hand in the shape of a sword when I was drunk at a prom party, that action pretty much speaks for itself. I’m very helpful at times, especially when I am being a supportive friend, which I try to be very often. I got Chuck’s address for Q, helped Q find the clues to figure out where Margo is and went on a road trip with Q, Radar and Lacey to find Margo. Don’t say I never did anything for you Q. I actually did a lot for you. I’m also an amazing boyfriend. Isn’t that right Lacey?

  6. why Do I, of all people Have to do this assignment? i’m not even in florida anymore. Any Way i can be described as mysterious, or even enigmatic. To be me is a mystery that q apparently loves to attempt to solve. i guess that i Get my mysterious nature from The Other side of my family, not my mothers side. my sister is the one that has the most Things in common with our mother. That Is the weird part, she doesn’t look anything like me. i am also smart and vengeful. Somewhere deep inside me there is a sweet girl, that i don’t let anyone Else see. well, except for Quentin. oh yeah thanks so much for your help that night. it was a real pleasure to see A different expression upon certain people’s faces when we pranked them. does lacey know about the Little surprise in her suv yet? has it started to stink yet? if so, please don’t Help her clean it out. i guess i can also be considered to be mean, like when i pranked all of my so-called friends. i am happy to say that my intelligence usually exceeds that of those around me. i got into a college Here in new york, and this is where i wanted to end up. i am not sure what you all mean by “The character’s motivation”, but I was motivated by my parents to Run Away from home. they were also my motivation to develop two different identities, neither of which i really liked, which was a Problem for me. thanks for the assistance. if you understand this Thing, please respond and send a link. 7. Ah alas, the devastation that modern technology has had on the writing skills of today’s children. Now they have finally forgotten how proper grammar works. Please use proper capitalization when on these blogs, children.

    1. It is not incorrect grammar! If you are really a professor, and are as fluent and erudite as you say you are, you should have been able to deduce that there was a hidden message in this blog post! One would think that even the most uneducated toad would have been able to ratiocinate the code. It is plain as the nose on your face. For those of you unable to elucidate the code, it is: Do I have any way to get the other thing that is somewhere else? Quentin, a little help here? The run away problem thing. I understand what you are trying to say Margo, and here is a link for what you want. I had a blast that time when we crashed your friends’ houses. Thanks for the memories Margo! (Quentin)

    1. Wait a second Margo, this "link" might not work. To access what you are looking for, you will need to ask a student for a certain flash drive, or tell a certain teacher to check her email. Then open up a PowerPoint to get to what you are looking for.
